An important component of the Karoo Winter Wool Market are the natural fibre workshops that are taking place over the course of the weekend. We are overjoyed to have several fantastic natural fibre creatives joining us to for the Karoo Winter Wool festival. 


Botanical Nomad

Learn how to colour your wool using only natural eco friendly dyes. 

The Magic of Botanical Dyeing.

In South Africa we are surrounded by plants that are filled with tannins, tannins which has been know for generations to form a strong bond to both plant and animal fibers. In this workshop discover more about tannin containing plants, the extraction of dyes, solar dyeing and the beautiful earthy colours we can derive from the plants around us. Create your own set of wool mini skein dye samples to use in your projects as well as a solar dye bottle to take home for further experimentation and discoveries.

Adeles Mohair 

Creative knitting workshop where you will be taught different patterns and learn to use different yarns. 

We will be knitting a squares on the diagonal using samples from our knitting kits which contain several creative yarns. We'll find which stitches are best to use to create different effects with these exciting yarns. We will do some intarsia in the patterning and incorporate some Fairisle knitting techniques.

Karoo Moon

Karoo Moon - Our philosophy is to source and process South African natural fibres whether processed by hand or machine spun. The handspun portion of the business must continue in order to offer employment to rural ladies. Most processing is continued on a manual basis in order to create employment.

This workshop will be a Basic beginner knitting workshop. You will learn how to cast on, stocking stitch and decrease to knit a simple striped beanie. You will be given yarn, needles and a pattern.

We produce handwoven luxury homeware.

Jonette Schoeman is the founder and owner.

"I find working with textiles fascinating and inspiring. To me weaving is an adventure, with the excitement of exploring new textures and patterns with every piece I make. There is also a sense of satisfaction in working with my hands, it makes me happy and content. I believe we were all created to create."

Workshop theme: Free flow weaving design with 100% wool tops. Attendees will be making wall art.

Felt with Karen 

I have been working with Merino wool since 2004. Just love the versatility of what you can make with it. I also hand dye small quantities of merino in over 60 different vibrant colours. Needle felting has also become a new form of 3D art, I also supply needles and felting equipment.

Workshop 1: 

Wet Felting: Wet felting. - Learn how to make a small purse or notebook cover.

You will learn the basics of wet felting that can be adapted to make many different felted items. How to lay the wool and how to add a design to your project.

Workshop 2 :

Needle felted bunny

You will learn the basics of needle felting a 3D bunny. This will give you the skills on how to make a ball, add legs and ears Understand the different felting needles sizes and how to use them. (Great for children)
